Providing resources to enhance public agencies' work

There is no single public vendor, or combination of vendors, that performs the scope of savings and revenue projects that the Center for Health Care Financing operates on behalf of state health and human service agencies.

And at a time when health care is more complex than ever, demand for the Center's expertise is increasing dramatically. More states and municipalities across the country are discovering the value of the Center's research and technology capabilities, savings initiatives, and comprehensive claiming services.

Today the Center is working in partnership with public agencies in California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, and Washington.

As part of Commonwealth Medicine, the health care consulting and operations division of UMass Medical School, the Center for Health Care Financing has benefitted from years of university research and investment. The Center’s comprehensive understanding of the Social Security Administration and its influence on state Medicaid programs has helped to identify and remedy systemic flaws in the process through which health care is delivered and funded. The Center's services position states to save millions — in some cases billions — of dollars annually.

The timeline below highlights the growth of the Center and provides a snapshot of the activities it performs on behalf of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
